This research project aims to develop a typeface for long reading in the Breton language, while incorporating a folkloristic, contemporary and inclusive approach. Looking beyond the regionalist and traditional aspects of Breton folklore, the aim is to discern the common energy and universal dynamism that many artists have sought to harness, with an eye to the future.

By examining Brittany’s ‘Celtic’ identity from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, the project questions the conceptualisation of a regional identity through the prism of typography. This research explores typeface shapes and evaluates the validity of the stereotypes associated with them, with the aim of designing a typeface suitable for long reading, both in print and on screen, with stylistic elements and ligatures corresponding to the needs of minority Celtic languages. The project also includes features to facilitate inclusive writing in Breton.

This project is oriented towards linguistic and cultural diversity. The aim is to offer a typographic tool that reflects the richness of minority languages in the global landscape of written communication.
